This is the guide for the second legion raid boss Vykas. This guide will cover both Gates 1 and 2. The minimum item level for Valtan is 1430 for normal mode and 1460 for hard mode. The mechanics covered below will apply for both normal and hard mode. Before beginning the fight at gate 1, it is important for each raid member to assign themselves as per the picture below. This will be important for the mechanics described below.
Gate 1 Gate 2The major mechanics for gate 1 are listed as follows:
Vykas will teleport to the center and fly up. Soon after, lasers will hone on each raid member for 5 seconds. After 5 seconds, the laser will fire in the direction it is pointing at. Each raid member must move to the edges of the map and move clockwise. Once the laser stops moving, move to the left a bit more to dodge the laser beam.
At 120 bars of health, Vykas will teleport to the center and disappear while creating 3 clones of herself. Each raid member will need to go to the pre-assigned positions in purple. There will be 5 orbs in a plus shape in the center and each player assigned to the plus position must grab one orb. Do not grab more than one orb as doing so will kill you. The players on the 3, 7 and 11 positions will call the color the clone is glowing or the number of wings the clone has out. If the clone has 2 wings folded, it is purple. If the clone has 1 wing folded, it has no color and if the clone has no wings folded, it is red. Once the players grab the orbs, they will be assigned a random color (either red or purple). There will always be either 3 purple/2 red or 3 red/2purple. The goal is to move to the clone with the color that has the majority from the orbs. For example, if after grabbing the 5 orbs, the result is 3 purple/2 red, all raid members will move to the clone that's glowing purple. If the result is 3 red/2 purple, all raid members will move to the clone that's glowing red. After, all raid members will move to the clone with 1 wing folded or no color and lastly, the clone with the remaining color. Failure to move to the clone on time will result in the death of that raid member.
For example, if the orb colors are 3 purple/2red, the order of the clone rotation will be purple (2 wings folded), no color (1 wings folded), and last red (no wings folded). If the orb colors are 3 red/2 purple, the order of the clone rotation will be red (0 wings folded), no color (1 wing folded) and last purple (2 wings folded).
This mechanic is the same as the first laser mech at 135 bars of health. For reference, please see here.
Vykas will again teleport to the center and create 3 clones. The clones will emit 5 red or black pulses. All raid members will need to go to their pre-assigned positions and one member from each clock position will need to call out the positions of the black colored orbs only. The raid members in each of the positions will need to block the black orbs in the order that they saw the black pulses earlier. Every orb at this stage will be black, so you will not know which orb is a black orb or a red orb. If a red orb is blocked or a black orb is blocked twice, that will result in the death of the player. Should too many black orbs go through and get absorbed by Vykas, that could result in a raid wipe.
In this section, we will go over the normal patterns that Vykas does.
It is also possible to be in the small inside safe circle with the purple ring player or use time stop to avoid taking heavy damage or die from this pattern. This is one of the patterns that generally causes the most resets in this raid, so it's important to get used to this pattern.
The blue wolf normal patterns are slightly easier to dodge compared to the red wolf. However, it is still advisable to know to be familiar with the patterns as there are certain patterns that will still deal significant damage if not controlled properly.
Large Telegraph SwingIf he has a green ring around his hands, he will create green flames that explode in an inside-safe pattern. However, he will fire the green projectiles at 6 party members and if this is not controlled properly, it can be chaotic and result in multiple team members getting wiped. One tip is to have ALL raid members gather in one location and when he fires the green projectiles, all raid members will run to the opposite side of the map and that will dodge the large AOE attack.
Lastly, if he has the blue ring around his hands, he will throw blue projectiles at 6 team members which shortly explodes into icicle spears that will freeze raid members if they are hit by it. Similar to the green rings, to avoid getting frozen, all raid members can gather at one location and run to the other side of the map to avoid getting hit by the spears. The other option is to spacebar directly into the spear to avoid getting frozen (Note that this does not avoid damage).
With the red wolf, he will spin into a tornado and target one player to follow. Be aware not to go out of the tornado as it will suck you back in.
With the purple wolf, he will spin into a tornado and throw out blades resembling sickles a total of 3 times in a clockwise fashion. The easiest way to dodge this pattern is to see where the initial sickle is, then move clockwise once and move back to your original spot or if the first sickle hit you, stay in your spot to dodge the second one and then move clockwise one to dodge the third sickle like in the below video.
Fortunately, the blue wolf does not have a tornado pattern.
For gate 1, the main sidereal that would be used is Wei during the orb stagger mechanic for the Wei cheese. However, some higher level parties might opt to do the orb mechanic both times in order to use Thirain for extra damage. Balthor is never used for Gate 1.
