Gate 1

This is the guide for the first legion raid boss Valtan on Inferno or Extreme mode. This guide will cover both Gates 1 and 2 and assumes that you are knowledgeable of the mechanics for Normal mode Valtan. This guide is applicable to both inferno and extreme mode. The difference between inferno and extreme mode is that inferno mode uses a "Book of Coordination" whereby all raid members have equalized gear. As for extreme mode, gear is taken into account, but the mechanics are the same as for inferno mode. For Extreme mode, the minimum item level is 1580 for normal mode and 1620 for hard mode.

If you need a refresher on the regular mechanics, please refer here.

Recommended Battle Items: Whirlwind Grenades Health Pots Sacred Charm Atropine Potion (for DPS players only, supports just need to use Stimulant before entering the raid) Valtan Hell Gate 1 Battle Items

The HP bar for inferno/extreme mode is hidden. As such, instead of displaying the mechanics in terms of HP, it will be displayed based on the enrage timer. Please note that these timers are rough estimates. It will depend on how much damage and stagger your party is able to do:

Overview of Inferno/Extreme Mode

In this section, we will go over a quick overview of inferno and extreme mode content. There are quite a few differences between inferno/extreme mode and regular content. When we say regular content, we are referring to the gold earning raids that you would do every week. First off, there is no HP bar in inferno or extreme mode. All mechs that you will see is based off of the enrage timer. You would also need to play around the boss' stagger bar. As you see above, all DPS classes should bring Atropine Potion. When the boss gets staggered, this is the window where all DPS classes should pop their Atropine potions to dish out as much damage as possible. Supports should also make sure to have their damage buff activated. For supports, generally speaking, unless the boss is far from being staggered, supports should always hold the damage buff skills for when the boss gets staggered. At the beginning of the fight, supports should also use a Stimulant to activate their identity skill right away. All this is important in order for the mechs to happen around the enrage timers listed above.

Below, we will go over each mechanic for Gate 1 and how it differs from regular content.

12:00 Purple Wolf

The fight starts off the same as regular content. For the list of normal patterns done by the purple wolf, please refer here. As a reminder, the purple wolf will do any combination of the blue and red wolf normal patterns.

IMPORTANT: If your party has a Gunlancer, it is important for the Gunlancer to taunt the boss as soon as possible. This will provide a big DPS opportunity for the rest of the team uninterrupted.

FIRST STAGGER: Depending on your party's stagger, the purple wolf should be close to getting staggered or staggered before the separation into the red and blue wolf.

10:45 Boss Split (Red Wolf Spawns)

Similarly, there's no difference here between inferno/extreme mode versus regular content.

SECOND STAGGER: The second stagger should happen around the same time when the blue wolf invades.

9:25 Blue Wolf Invades

There are slight differences for this mechanic. For this mechanic in inferno/extreme mode, you would still want to separate the blue and red wolf. However, instead of all party members going to the respective wolves, everyone but the party member with the blue wolf mark should go to where the red wolf is. Now, make sure to align the wolves in a straight line as you will use your first Thirain sidereal here. Thirain is needed to help push DPS as otherwise, there won't be enough DPS to complete the raid before the boss goes berserk.

If Thirain hits both wolves, it's usually enough to push to the next mechanic or close to the First Orb Stagger Check. If not, then your party would need to push DPS to the next mechanic, otherwise, the red wolf will go into the darkness stage and it will make the raid signficantly more difficult.

8:10 First Orb Stagger Check

This mechanic is exactly the same as regular content. However, Wei cannot be used here as a cheese as you would've used Thirain to push DPS earlier. For a detailed explanation of the mechanics as a refresher, please refer here.

After the stagger check is completed, the red wolf will disappear and the blue wolf will take it's place. Just like in regular Valtan, when the blue wolf spawns in, his hands will have either a red, green or blue ring. The different rings will have different patterns.

If he has a green ring around his hands, he will create green flames that explode in an inside-safe pattern. However, he will fire the green projectiles at 6 party members and if this is not controlled properly, it can quickly become chaotic and result in multiple team members getting wiped.

If he has a red ring around his hands, he will spawn various red pools of flame around him and you will need to go far out to be able to avoid taking damage.

Lastly, if he has the blue ring around his hands, he will throw blue projectiles at 6 team members which shortly explodes into icicle spears that will freeze raid members if they are hit by it. Similar to the green rings, to avoid getting frozen, all raid members can gather at one location and run to the other side of the map to avoid getting hit by the spears. The other option is to spacebar directly into the spear to avoid getting frozen (Note that this does not avoid damage).

It is super important to be aware of this pattern as it will really hurt if you get hit by this. Generally, the moment you see that he's about to use the pattern, one player should ping where to stand, and everyone should go to that position to avoid the chaos that can ensue which can result in multiple deaths.

7:05 Red Wolf Invades

Similar to the mech when the blue wolf invades, there should be enough time where your party can stagger the blue wolf to line up a double Thirain on both wolves. Should you succeed, you should be able to push the boss to the second orb stagger check.

THIRD STAGGER: As mentioned above, the third stagger should be around this time where you can line up the wolves for a double Thirain.

6:05 Second Orb Stagger Check

This mechanic is exactly the same as the first orb stagger check. Again, Wei should not be used here as Thirain should've been used previously.

Normal Patterns

There are no differences in patterns for the wolves. For a detailed description of each pattern, please refer here.

Sidereal Usage

For gate 1, Thirain is mainly used as he's needed to push DPS to the different mechs (mainly for double Thirain on the wolves). Balthor is never used for Gate 1.
