Gate 1

This is the guide for the first gate of the Abyssal Dungeon Kayangel. The minimum item level for this dungeon is 1540 for normal mode and 1580 for hard mode. There are slight differences in mechanics between normal and hard mode and they will be listed below. This will be the first raid where the focus will be placed more on normal patterns versus mechanics. So pay special attention to the normal patterns down below.

The major mechanics for gate 1 are listed as follows:

IMPORTANT: Gate System

This gate has a re-occuring gate system where different party members will spawn lightning pools on the ground after a few seconds and the amount of time left before the pool drops is indicated in the debuff bar. This will be indicated by an eye on top of the players head. There are 2 versions of this eye. The first version will last until x30 bars of mech and after some time has passed, the second version of the eye will trigger (hard mode only). If you are playing this on normal mode, you won't have to worry about this second variation of the eye. If you have the pool, be sure to drop it as far into the edge of the ring as possible. Pools that were dropped in the outer edge of the circular map will disappear during the mechanic. However, if any of the pools are dropped in the rectangular part of the map, the pool will stay on the field for the rest of the fight which will make the fight much more difficult after the mechanic. Keep in mind that as long as more than half of the pool is outside of the rectangular part of the map, the pool will disappear. Below is a visualization of both versions of the eye.

First Eye VariationSecond Eye Variation

We will now go in detail into the different eye variations. Although there are only two eye versions, there are actually 3 different types of pools that will spawn. The first type will spawn before the mechanic, the second type will spawn after the mechanic until x30 bars of health, which will then turn into the third type of pool (which again is indicated by the yellow eye instead of the red eye). Similar to above, the third pool after x30 bars of health is only applicable to hard mode.

The first variation of the pool that spawns provides an attack damage buff to anybody who steps into the pool for 8 seconds. This buff is also applicable to the boss as well should he step into the pool. For those who are progging this gate, it is important to keep the boss away from these pools to avoid having him gain an attack damage buff.

The second variation of the pool that spawns after the mechanic will electrocute and stun any players that step into the pool. Pools that have remained on the field from before the mechanic will turn into electric pools as well, so be aware of those pools. This is why dropping the pools as far out as possible is recommended to keep the map as clean as possible for the second and third variation of the pools.

HARD MODE ONLY: The third variation of the pool that spawns after x30 bars of health will have a circular blue telegraph that increases in size for a certain distance. Anybody caught inside the blue telegraph will be electrocuted and stunned, so be sure to stay away from the blue telegraph as it spawns.

Below are videos showcasing the three different types of pools that will spawn.

x55 Lightning Showdown

At around 55 bars of HP, there will be a small dialogue and the boss will teleport to the center while his clone destroys the outer circular edges of the map resulting in only the inner rectangular part of the map. From this point onwards, death by gravity is possible. The boss will then jump to the bottom part of the map and create an electrical field near the bottom that will stun and deal massive damage to anybody who comes into contact with it. At the same time, there will also be a downward current pushing you to the electrical field. The boss will also spawn lightning that runs down as well which stuns you should you come into contact with it. In hard mode, there will also be blue lightning travelling across the map which again will stun you as well and the current will pull you into the electric field. It is imperative that you dodge all of these lightning patterns to avoid getting dragged down into the electrical field at the bottom which will most likely kill you should you stay in the field for too long. While all of this is going on, the boss will target a random player and after a few seconds, throw a spear at the player. To dodge the spear, press space bar as the spear is thrown or travel downwards with the current to gain movement speed to dodge the spear. The boss will do this 4 times. Once all 4 spears are thrown, the mechanic is over.

As a note, the method I used in the video to help me dodge the lightning is to use auto move (shortcut is T on my keyboard). I would have the cursor all the way to the right so that my character moves to the right constantly to avoid being pulled down to the bottom. Another tip is when the cursor is on your character while you have the auto move active, your character will move in a circle in the same spot. This allows your character to stay in one spot also without getting pulled down to the electric field. However, these are just tips that I personally use. If you find anything that works for you, feel free to use those as well.

Normal Patterns

In this section, we will go over the normal patterns that Tienis does.

X Slash into Forward Stab Tienis will do 2 slashes in the shape of an X before doing a forward stab with his sword. If anyone is caught while he starts his forward stab animation, he will also do a series of left and right slams before a final slam which frees the player in front of him. Whenever he does this pattern, supports should shield themselves and always try to get grabbed here to allow for more DPS opportunity. If you get grabbed by this attack, you would be safe from getting thrown off the map. However, there is no immunity period and any attack afterwards has a chance of knocking you off the map, so it's important to spacebar away from the edge afterwards.
Big Vertical Slash into Horizontal Slash Tienis will swing his sword vertically in front of him before doing a side slash.
180 degree explosion Tienis will do a 180 degree explosion that will always be on either side. Avoid the red telegraph.
Donut explosion into 270 degree swing Tienis will dash forward before creating donut shape explosions which is initially outside safe and then inside safe. After the explosions, he will do a 270 degree swing on either side. Stay close to him to get to the safe spot faster.
Triple Stab Tienis will stab his sword twice before lunging forward to do a third stab. This third stab will also push anybody within Tienis' vicinity to the direction of the stab. You will always be able to recognize this pattern as he will always swing his sword like an X shape before doing the pattern.
Wild Slash Tienis will slash his sword multiple times in front of him. Sometimes he may teleport behind another player and do this same pattern up to three times. After the mechanic, on occasion, he may follow this up with a triple slam attack, so be aware of this as well. His back side is safe for this pattern.
Quick-Spin (Counterable) Tienis holds a stance and during this time, he is counterable. Should the counter fail, he will spin very rapidly aimed at the targetted player. This pattern does a lot of damage, so getting the counter is important.
Stagger or Reflect Tienis will do a backflip and depending on his stance, it will either be a small stagger check or a damage reflection. If he's spinning his sword in front of him, that is a stagger check. Make sure to not stagger in front of him as there is reflect damage. If he's spinning his sword on top of him, it's a damage reflect, so do not attack him or he will knock everyone away. The first video shows a video of the stagger version and the second video shows the reflect version.
Charge Stab Tienis charges and lunges forward with a stab. He may do this once or twice. Similar to the X slash into forward stab, if anyone is nearby when he does his lunge forward, he will do a slightly longer animation and this would be a good DPS opportunity. Supports should shield and try to get hit on purpose. If you get grabbed by this attack, you would be safe from getting thrown off the map. However, there is no immunity period and any attack afterwards has a chance of knocking you off the map, so it's important to spacebar away from the edge afterwards.
Charge Slash Tienis targets a random player and charges for a few seconds. He will then teleport behind the player and slash the player with his sword. After the mechanic, clones will appear and do an additional two slashes.
Pizza into Wild Slash Tienis will do a pizza shaped pattern followed up by a Wild Slash pattern described above. Sometimes he may do the wild slash pattern more than once or he may follow up with a 3 slam attack as per the below video.
Rotating Back and Forth Slam Tienis will slam his sword back and forth in a rotating pattern. This pattern could be clockwise or counter-clockwise, so make sure to pay attention, especially after the mechanic to avoid getting knocked off the map.
Flying Swords Similar to one of Valtan's moves, Tienis will float up and sword clones will start flying down and if you get hit, it will do massive damage.
Air Slash into Donut Explosion Tienis jumps into the air and throws a series of air slashes before jumping back down to do a donut explosion. After dodging the air slashes, make sure to go close to him to avoid the outside explosion.
